Women's Basketball names first signings of 2017

DEERFIELD, Ill. - New Trinity International women's basketball head coach Irvin Jerry announced the first additions to his squad for the upcoming 2017-18 season on Friday, as Bridgette Smith and Kylee Daniels are set to join the Trojans next season.

Smith, a guard from Oxnard, Calif., comes to Trinity after setting all-time school records with 1,339 points and 280 steals following a standout career at Rio Mesa HS. As a senior, Smith led the Spartans to a third straight Pacific View League championship, and was a four-time All-Conference first team honoree. Smith was also a four-time All-Ventura County Team member, earning first team accolades after her junior and senior seasons, and in 2016 was named to the All-CIF Division 2-A Team.

"I chose TIU because it gives me a chance to move out of my comfort zone, and it's a visual of what I want my life to be like in the future," said Smith on her decision to come to Trinity. "It's an awesome opportunity to continue playing basketball while getting a great education."

"Bridgette is a great addition to our program; she's won a lot of games at the high school level, and was an integral contributor in that success," said Jerry. "She's a well-rounded athletic point guard that will fill up the stat sheet and fit really well in our defensive and offensive systems."

Daniels will join the Trojans after a successful junior college career, where she averaged 22.1 points per game as a shooting guard at Yuba College. The Granite Bay, Calif. native was the fourth-leading scorer in the state of California last season, totaling 642 points, and set school records at Yuba CC with 45 points and 10 three-point field goals in a single game. As a sophomore last season, Daniels was selected to the All-CCCAA Northern California All-State Team, and is a two-time All-Bay Valley Conference honoree.

"I feel Trinity is a good fit for me academically, athletically and spiritually," said Daniels. "I believe it will allow me to grow not only as a student-athlete, but as a person as well."

"Kylee is a dynamic player that will add scoring to our team," Jerry added. "When I saw her play back in December I knew she was a player that would fit in really well with how I like my teams to play. I'm excited to be able to add a player with her scoring ability, work ethic, and focus on and off the court."
