
Mike Gims comes to Trinity after serving
as the Head Football Coach at Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy since
2003.
"All of us within Trojan Athletics are going to miss Coach Derek Dewitt and the hard work and dedication that he invested during his time as a member of the TIU family," said TIU Athletic Director Patrick Gilliam. "I am very confident in the future of Trinity Football under the leadership of our new Head Coach, Mike Gims, and I look forward to the high level of success and integrity that he will bring to the position. I am excited about this new beginning for Trojan Football and have already been impressed with Mike's passion to integrate faith and football in a powerful and life-changing fashion."
Gims attended the University of Cincinnati for his bachelor's degree, where he majored in Physical Education and Health. He excelled as a wide-receiver at Lakota High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. Mike and his wife, Kathy, have been married for 25 years and have two daughters, Kelley and Kayla.
"It is an honor and a privilege to be named as the new Head Football Coach at TrinityInternational University," said Gims. "We will emphasize spiritual development, academics, and teamwork. Our ultimate goal is to bring honor and glory to the Lord in everything we do. I am looking forward to working together with great people at TIU to create a program of excellence."

Kirk Wherritt will serve in the role of Offensive Coordinator for the Trojans. Coach Wherritt has spent the last three years working for Head Coach Mike Sanford at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. During the 2007 season, Wherritt was the Offensive Graduate Assistant under Offensive Coordinator Todd Berry. Wherritt's first two seasons at UNLV were spent on defense as the Defensive Graduate Assistant.
In 2004, Wherritt served at the University of Utah as an Offensive Assistant for Head Coach Urban Meyer. Prior to his experience at Utah and UNLV, Wherritt worked as the Offensive Coordinator with the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee club football team.
Wherritt will earn a Master of Education in Sports Education Leadership from UNLV this May. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Therapeutic Recreation from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2004. Wherritt is engaged to Keli Johnson, and the two plan to marry this May.
