The football team lost the final game of their season Saturday to St. Ambrose University 28-0. The visiting St. Ambrose Bees opened the game with a 49 yard drive that ended with a missed field goal from 39 yards out. After a quick three and out, the Bees took over at the TIU 40 yard line.
On the third play of the St. Ambrose drive Jered Flinkman intercepted a Will Ducey pass and returned it to Trinity's 19 yard line. The ball changed hands two more times before the Bees managed to score on a 2 yard run for a touchdown in the second quarter. The half ended with St. Ambrose out front 7-0.
St. Ambrose opened the second half with a drive that resulted in a 1 yard rush by Mike LaRocco for a touchdown. The Trojans responded with a strong drive but fumbled on their own 12 yard line. The Bees marched back down the field but came up empty as their 28 yard field goal attempt was blocked. After another quick three and out by the Trojans, Ducey completed a 22 yard pass to Kyle Korth for a touchdown on the second play of their drive. With Trinity again unable to score, Ducey sparked another drive this time running it in himself from 5 yards out for a score. Neither team scored in the fourth quarter leaving the Bees out front 28-0.
The Trojans were led by Cole Bamberger with 72 yards rushing on 18 carries. The defense was again led by Pete Miller with 9.5 tackles. Jered Flinkman also had a strong defensive day recording 8 tackles and an interception. Will Ducey led St. Ambrose in completing 24 of 35 passes for 332 yards and a touchdown. Kyle Horth and Michael Hayward combined for 243 yards receiving and a touchdown on only 19 carries.
Trinity finished their season with a 1-10 record going 0-7 in conference play.
