Deerfield, IL - #3 NAIA DII Men's Basketball Ranked Cardinal Stritch Wolved visited the Trojans at the Meyer Sports Complex Wednesday Evening. While the Trojan Seniors Daniel Metzelfeld and Dillon Wadsack had top notch scoring, their efforts were not enough to pry off the Wolves, TIU taking the loss at 67-88.
Trinity International has now hit 5 losses in a row, and are left hungry for a victory after their battle with the Wolves. The Cardinal Stritch Wolves (20-2, 16-0) will remain undefeated in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference and hold steady in their current standing as #3 in the NAIA DII.
The Wolves got off to a quick start, leading by 14 points at 16-2 just 6 minutes into the game. However, only 6 minutes later the Trojans were able to cut the lead down and get back within 9 points at 15-24. At the break, the Wolves gained a confident 28-49 lead. The Wolves gained another 25 point lead early in the second half, but the Trojans gave a temendous effort and worked back within 12 points at 59-71 with 7:25 remaining. The Wolves would regain strength and close out the game over the Trojans 67-88.
TIU Senior Metzelfeld earned 27 points on the Wolves, went 6-6 from the free throw line and grabbed 5 rebounds, along with and Senior Wadsack also contributing with 23 points and 6 rebounds.
The Trojans move forward to 9-12 overall and 6-9 in the CCAC, standing in 8th place of 12 conference teams. Trinity International returns to the court on Thursday, January 17th as the Trojans will host the University of St. Francis at 7:30pm.
