Milwaukee, WI – The Trinity International Men's Basketball Team took on No. 6-ranked Cardinal Stritch University Wolves in a post-season game, the first of the 2012 CCAC Men's Basketball Tournament, and nearly caused an upset. The game ended in a loss for the Trojans, 66-79.
The Trojans played strongly against the #6 ranked Wolves. Nate Ball and Demontay Robinson had the first four points and led the energized team through the high-scoring first half which ended 40-33 in favor of the Trojans.
Twenty seconds into the second half saw a foul by the Wolves, and yielded two free throw points by Andrew Paul for the Trojans. The Trojans were still ahead with 11 minutes on the clock, but this would prove to be the turning point of the game as the first seeded Wolves sought to eliminate the upset. The Trojans committed a foul with 11:03 on the clock, and it was downhill for them from there. Two good free throws by the Wolves brought the score to 53-56, with the Trojans still in the lead. Two more Trojan fouls would tie the game in the next three minutes, and a run by the Wolves would end the game 79-66.
It was a narrow escape for the Wolves, who were shooting at 38% while Trinity made 67% of their shots. The lead by the Trojans was as large as 9 points in the first half, and 7 in the second. Trinity International was led by Daniel Metzelfeld with 14 points, followed closely by Dillon Wadsack and Nate Ball who added 12 points each. Nate Ball also grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds for the team.
The Trinity International Men's Basketball Team ended their season 4-26 overall, but came out with winning spirits in the post-season. Though the games are done for the year, the Trojans will continue to gear up for next year's season. Since they will only lose two seniors, next year looks promising.
