Lady Trojans stunned after losing 78-74 in double overtime to Judson University.
Trinity had a one-point lead at the half, 34-33, and had as large as a five-point lead in the half. Judson started the game off on a 7-3 run and kept the lead until Trinity tied it at 17. The game was tied at 22 with 6:07 left in the half when TIU went on a 12-7 run for the five-point lead, 34-29. Judson scored the final four points of the half to come within one, 34-33.
Looking as if the game would end after the first overtime with Judson up by three, 69-66, Brittany Simon (JR Clinton Township, MI) spotted up for a three-pointer that just beat the buzzer to tie the game and send it to the next overtime. Judson had a four-point lead, 67-63, with 1:47 left on a Judson layup but Trinity fought right down to the end. They were within one, 67-66, with 46 seconds left on a free throw shot from Simon but two Judson free throws made it 69-66 with six seconds left. Simon then dribbled through the defenders and got off the magical three-point shot as time expired to send the game to double overtime.
In the second overtime, Judson connected on a jumper just 20 seconds in to go ahead, 71-69. After 2:40 of no scoring, Simon hit her fifth three-pointer of the game as Trinity International went back on top, 72-71. That is the last time that Trinity International would have the lead as Judson finished on a 7-2 run for the four-point victory, 78-74.
Judson finished shooting 40% overall and made 29% of their three-point shots and 76% of their free throws. Trinity International shot 30% from the floor, 38% from beyond the arc, and 58% from the stripe. The Lady Trojans out rebounded Judson, 54-47.
Brittany Simon had 28 points for Trinity International and Clarissa Woodward (SO Kokomo, IN) had 22 points and grabbed 18 rebounds.
The Lady Trojans will face Purdue University Calumet University on Jan. 7th at 5:30 P.M.
