DEERFIELD, IL - Trinity International University ended its 2011 football season in November, but for Trojan Football Seniors Thomas Denne (LB), Jonathan Salgado (WR), Bruce Palmer (TE), and Matt Williams (DL) it wasn't time to turn in the pads just yet. The four seniors competed in the inaugural D2 vs NAIA Senior Bowl on December 3, 2011 in Middletown, New York.
The D2 vs NAIA Senior Bowl selected stand out players who represent both the NCAA Division II and NAIA college football levels to compete in an all-star game format. The participants took part in a three day experience consisting of NFL combine testing, an awards banquet, and the actual game with NFL scouts in attendance. Equally important for the players and fans was the opportunity to play against outstanding competition in a challenge to measure the talents of NCAA Division II players against the NAIA players. Thomas Denne and Matt Williams competed for NAIA defensive squad while Bruce Palmer and Jonathan Salgado competed for the NAIA Offensive squad. All four players received a significant amount of playing time, but it wasn't enough to stop the NCAA Division II team from edging the NAIA team 29-28. Although the outcome of the game wasn't what the seniors wanted, the experience of playing in a Bowl game is something that will stick with them forever.
