DEERFIELD, IL- The Trinity International University men's soccer team defeated Saint Ambrose University 2-0, with two early goals at home.
On a beautiful sunny day in Deerfield, the TIU Trojans came out on a mission to defeat the SAU Fighting Bees.
The Bee's hive was kicked over early when the Trojans, Vasily Giannakopoulos (JR Wilmot, IL) had a fantastic strike past the keeper in the 12th minute giving TIU an early lead 1-0. V. Giannakopoulos was assisted by his twin brother Petro Giannakopoulos (JR Wilmot, IL) in fantastic distribution form.
Less than a minute later the Fighting Bee's were called for a foul inside the box setting up a Penalty kick for V. Giannakopoulos. Another sweet strike past the dazed keeper gave V. Giannakopoulos his second goal of the game and a Trojan lead 2-0.
Trojan Nation was in an uproar as the players celebrated their second goal of the match.
In the 14th minute a yellow card was given to SAU's Jared Winking (SO Quincy, IL).
In the 35th minute a yellow card was distributed to TIU's Caleb Spitler (SO Wautoma, WI).
There were no more goals in the first half with Trinity out shooting Saint Ambrose 12 shots to 1.
In the second half the tide would turn in terms of shots in the Fighting Bee's favor. SAU would out shoot TIU 11-7. Two of these shots would be off the post.
In the 55th minute, off of one of SAU's 11 corner kick's of the match, Antonio Villasenor (SR Glen Ellyn, IL) would head a ball off the cross bar and then quickly cleared by the TIU defense.
In the 65th minute the Fighting Bee's would sting post again off the boot of Kendrick Tyson's (SR Davenport, IA) laser shot.
The ball would travel from one half to the other until Saint Ambrose's Curtis Howard (SR Clinton, IA) received a yellow card in the 80th minute.
The Trojan keeper Mitchel Wiseman (FR Cherry Valley, CA) earned the team's shut out with some monster saves and help from his tenacious defending crew. The two early goals would be all that mattered in this 2-0 win at home.
The TIU men's soccer team plays next Saturday, August 28th at 1:00 PM at home.
