DEERFIELD, IL-  The Trinity International University men's soccer team fell short to Davenport University, 1-2 at their home season opener.

With the beginning of a new season at hand, Trojan fans in the hundreds came out to support their men's soccer team on a beautiful, hot, and sunny afternoon in Deerfield.

The first half yielded a score nil to nil with an almost even showing by both the Trojans and the Panthers.  TIU had 4 shots to DU's 3, each team had one save on goal, and TIU had 9 fouls to Davenport's 8.

The second half continued at the same even pace until Petro Giannakopoulos (JR Wilmot, WI) blasted a low driven shot to the bottom right corner of the net past the Panther keeper, after a quick juke that brought the DU defender to his knees.  Kenny Stoner (JR Kenosha, WI) was credited with the assist giving the Trojans a 1-0 lead in the 56th minute.

However the Panthers would claw back in the 64th with a phenomanal cross and header goal by Michael Ricketts (FR Tamworth, England) assisted by Carl Winterbottom (SR Coventry, England) leveling the game 1-1.

The ball would travel from one half to the other for the next nine minutes until in the 73rd Davenport's Alex Boehm (SR Stevensville, MI) broke through TIU's defense and put one in the back of the net giving the Panthers the lead 1-2.

TIU would scramble to equalize the score, but would end up falling short as the horn blew ending the match in defeat, 1-2.

TIU plays their next match at home Friday, April 27th at 4:30 PM against Saint Ambrose University.
