Milly Garvin takes a shot on goal.
DEERFIELD, IL- The Trinity International University women's soccer team kicked off the season in the right kind of way with a win over Viterbo University 2-0.
With new faces from different places, the lady Trojans came together as a team and defeated the V-Hawks on a hot, humid day at home. With today's result the women's soccer team promises to deliver many offensive initiatives along side with defensive domination.
In the first period the Trojans out shot the V-Hawks 10-1, but remained scoreless through the first 45 minutes.
Whatever was adjusted or said during halftime, made the difference for the match. The Trojans continued to fire shots on goal, and one finally found the back of the net in the 64th minute off the boot of Courtney Ensz (SO Shoreview, MN) assisted by Sarah Figard (SR Orwigsburg, PA).
The Trojans weren't finished scoring for the match and added another point to their lead with a well placed, well executed, header past the keeper in the 81st minute. Diana Anderson (JR Bourbonnais, IL) was on the end of the goal with a combo assist by Jessica Nussbaum (SO Naperville, IL) and Milly Garvin (SO Hudson, IL).
The Trojans were able to keep their lead despite a yellow card by Figard in the 88th minute, earning Keeper Rebekah Niedermayer (SR Buffalo Grove, IL) a save and the Lady Trojans their first victory of the season.
The Trinity International University women's soccer team plays their next match at home September 3rd, at 5:00 PM against Mayville State University.
