DEERFIELD, IL- The Trinity International University men's baseball team was defeated in both games of a home Senior Day doubleheader against the University of Saint Francis, 0-7 and 5-8.
The Trojans (29-21, 13-16) were unable to over come the Fighting Saints (34-13, 24-5) who secured the CCAC title with both wins.
In game 1, TIU was unable to score for the entire contest while allowing five errors in which USF capitalized losing, 0-7.
In between game one and two the Trojan seniors were honored including Nate Alvarado Jr. (Kaneohe, HI), Stephen Bradner (New City, AZ), Pete Miller (Chicago, IL), Owen LeFlar (Edmonton, AB, Canada), Phil Sims (Waukegan, IL), Drew Wicklund (Zion, IL), and Bart Castillo (Arlington Heights, IL).
Game 2, began with a bang as senior short stop, Phil Sims lead off with a solo home run to left field. Sims would lead the Trojans hitting another 3-run bomb to left field his very next at bat. Sims would go 2-4 on the night with 4 RBI's and give TIU an early seconding inning lead, 4-0.
Kevin Tenney (JR San Diego, CA) would hit the other RBI to contribute to the Trojan offensive in the bottom of the fourth inning. Tenney, NAIA player of the week would, bat 2-5 on the night with 1 RBI, and help the TIU obtain a lead in the bottom of the fourth 5-1.
The Fighting Saints would continue to fight for the rest of this extra inning contest. Despite pitching mound malfunctions, and questionable ground rule double shenanigans, Saint Francis was able to score some runs and win the game 8-5 in two extra innings, clinching the CCAC title.
The Trojans have a chance to avenge their losses playing the Frighting Saints again on the road May 6th at 3:00 PM.
