On February 27 and April 10 of 2010, two groups of Trojan Football players visited the Chicago's south-side to partner with Roseland Christian Ministries.
Roseland Chistian Ministries seeks to purchase abandoned homes in the community and renovate them. The homes are then used in a rent to own program. Roseland Christian Ministries has been serving the Chicago community since 1976 providing comprehensive assistance "centered in God's word of Hope."
The time spent with Roseland Christian Ministries is one of the many ways that the TIU Football Team is revamping what it looks like to be a Trinity Trojan Football Player. "We are making great strides in the classroom and on the field," Coach Wherritt stated. "Not only are we looking to improve in those areas, but we want to make a mark in the community by giving of our time and energy to assist Christ-centered ministries."
In their time with Roseland, the groups gutted an old house and worked to fix up other homes. Senior Offensive Lineman Bob Dorman commented about the experience, "Hopefully we showed them Christ's love through hard work and service."
The Trojan football team is excited about partnering with Roseland Christian Ministries and will look to continue to serve alongside them to serve Chicago communities in the future.
Members of the team who participated in the days of service included: Es Maurice, Brian Deighton, Bob Dorman, Taylor Holmes, Kyle Mowen, Dwayne Williams, Clinton Johnson, Jawon Spivery, Stewart Gonzalez, Jarrett Hill, Zach Cunningham, Corey Prudhomme, Nigel Pinson, David Wheeler, Bruce Palmer, Sean Gilbert, and Linn Byrd.
