Tucson, AZ- The Lady Trojans beat Northwestern College 13-4, but lost to Peru State 6-5 (in eight innings), Jamestown 11-9, and Iowa Wesleyan 10-2.
The Trojans started Thursday's play strong. Their first opponent was Northwestern College (IA). NWC struck first, scoring 3 in the top of the first. In the bottom of the third, TIU answered back with three runs of their own, seeing Katie Kiscellus, Jenny Cernek and Tara Faulker crossing the plate. NWC would score only 1 more in the game, in the top of the fourth. The Trojans batted around in the 5th inning, scoring 6. A grand slam in the bottom of the 6th by Niki Eisenberg, scoring Tara Faulkner, Carrie Lee and Jenna Depa, would end the game early. It was Eisenberg's second grand slam of the tournament, and fourth home run.
The second game of the day brought Peru State back to the field to finish the game that began on Tuesday, but was postponed due to severe weather. The game resumed in the top of the 5th, the Trojans up 1-0 with one out and Carrie Lee up to bat. Peru State tied the game in the bottom of the 6th. There would not be another score until the top of the 8th, when TIU would score 4 as a result of base hits from Jenna Depa, Stephanie Johnson and Katie Kiscellus and two costly errors from PSU. TIU went into the bottom of the 8th up 5-1. Unfortunately, that was not enough, as Peru State scored 5 to end the game 6-5.
Jamestown was the next opponent for TIU. Though the Trojans lost 11-9, there were several great offensive showings for TIU. Jenna Depa went 4-4. Niki Eisenberg went 2-2 with a walk and a sac fly to right field. Whitney Folven added to the Trojan's offensive, going 3-4, while Katie Kiscellus and Stephanie Johnson both were 2-4 on the game.
Iowa Wesleyan was the fourth and final game of the day. The Trojan bats were not as hot as they had been in the previous game, and the only two players to cross the plate were Jenna Depa and Niki Eisenberg. The Trojans would not be able to match the offense of IWU, and would fall 10-2.
TIU went 3-9 in the tournament, defeating Sienna Heights, College of St Mary, and Northwestern College. They are scheduled to play Cardinal Stritch University at home on March 20th.
