Tucson, AZ- Trinity Softball faced tough competition in their first day in Tucson, losing to University of Great Falls and Purdue North Central.

The first game of the day found the Lady Trojans facing the Argos of University of Great Falls. This game was the first of the season for both teams.

The Trojans were leading the game in the 4th inning, with a score of 7-5. The Argos came on strong in the fifth inning, tallying 10 runs and forcing an end to the game. The final score was 15-7 and gave the Lady Trojans their first lost of the season.  Whitney Folven recorded her first home run of the season in her first at bat, adding to the team's .400 batting average for the game. Niki Eisenberg and Jenny Cernek both went 2-2. Jenna Depa contributed 2 RBI's, a steal and was 2 for 3 in her first performance as a Lady Trojan.

Directly following this game, the Trojans moved to field 2 to take on the Panthers of Purdue North Central. PNC had just lost their first game of the season to Sienna Heights, 2-1. Both teams came ready to play, and the Trojans led for most of the game, but PNC stayed within a run or two. 

At the end of the 7th inning, the score was tied 4-4. The 8th and 9th inning saw no change in the score. In the 10th inning, TIU went up 5-4, but the Panthers answered back to tie up the game and take it to the 11th inning. TIU went up 7-5 with a single by Brittany Weisensel to bring in Jenna Depa and Niki Eisenberg. But, PNC struck back, scoring 3 runs and defeated the Trojans in the bottom of the 11th.

Coach Sippel sees positive results in today's contests. "If this is where we are beginning, I can't wait to see where we will go," Coach Sippel commented. "The story that isn't told by the scoreboard is the many ways that we grew today."

The Trojans return to the field tomorrow to face Siena Heights University at 11am, University of Great Falls at 3:30pm, and Hope International at 6pm.
