DEERFIELD, IL - The Lady Trojans took on Judson University at home Tuesday night, as both teams were playing in the first round of the CCAC Tournament. The Trojans had just faced the Eagles in Elgin on Saturday night and beat them 70-60.
After losing Saturday night's game, the Eagles traveled to Deerfield to again take on Trinity International. The game began with the Trojans scoring 5 points before the Eagles could score any points. At 13:54, Reanna Perera, scored a jumper, which put the Trojans up by 7 points - what would be their biggest lead of the half. For the entire first half, Trinity was ahead of Judson. Judson brought the margin of points down to a 1 point difference with 2:17 left in play, at 28-27. But with 1:35 left on the clock, Trojan Melanie Duplessis scored a jumper, pushing the Trojans ahead by 3 points, 30-27. The half ended with a 3-point field goal by the Eagles' Lindsey Jordan, leaving Judson behind by 2 points, 32-30.
Judson started the first half like they finished the second half. The Eagles' Rachel McBride scored a jumper and tied the score at 32-32 within the first 40 seconds of play. The score went back and forth with the lead changing 6 times over the second half. The widest lead the Trojans possessed was with 4:55 left on the clock when Cassie Glendenning swished a 3 pointer. Trinity moved ahead of Judson by 9 points, 62-53. The Eagles would bring the score to a tie with 2:30 left in the game at 62-62. But the Trojans still would not let them take the lead. Duplessis scored another jumper, followed by another jumper by Perera. Vivianne Kindt was fouled and made her free throw, which put the Trojans ahead by 5 points, at 67-62. At 1:09 the Eagles' Kristi Siemers scored a jumper and decreased the margin of points by 2, at 67-65. It became a 2-point margin with a little over a minute left in the game. The Eagles missed their next shot and had a turnover as time ran out. Crystal Goodall threw up a jumper with 00:04 left on the clock, but it would not go in the hoop. As a result, the Trojans won the game 67-65.
On the leaderboard tonight was Melanie Duplessis who owned 21 points. Also in double digits was Reanna Perera with 14 total points and Vivianne Kindt with 13. Perera lead rebounds with 7, had 6 steals, and 4 assists. Chamissa Anderson owned 6 rebounds and had 3 assists as well.
The Trojans will play in Milwaukee against Cardinal Stritch University in the next round of the CCAC playoffs on Thursday, February 25. Tip-off time is TBA.
