DEERFIELD, IL - The Lady Trojans welcome Sydney Balstad of Boise, Idaho to the 2010-2011 women's soccer team.
Balstad has been playing soccer since the age of six. She played high school soccer for Capital High School in Boise, where the Golden Eagles were the 2008 State Championship finalists. In 2009, she was voted the team MVP and was also nominated to the 2nd team All-State roster.
Sydney's work ethic and efforts in club soccer have helped her team maintain a Top 50 national ranking with GotSport.com. This very special club team came together at U-11 and has found tremendous success, including six Idaho State Club Championship titles and semi-finalists at the Region IV 2008 Far West Regionals in Waikiki Beach, HI. In 2008, Sydney's contribution between the pipes helped her team become finalists in the US Club National Championship play in Virginia Beach, VA. She also helped secure a U.S. Club Regional Championship in Bellingham, WA in 2009.
Sydney's accomplishments off the field include multiple academic awards, community service, as well as participation with three mentoring programs.
The Trinity Women's Soccer team is looking forward to the addition of Balstad to the team. Head Women's Soccer Coach Patrick Gilliam stated, ''Sydney is a great addition to our campus and women's soccer program. She brings with her a wealth of high-level club soccer experience that will benefit us on the field, but I am equally excited about the quality of her character, heart for others, and desire to serve and know the Lord. I look forward to welcoming her here this fall as a part of the Lady Trojan Soccer Family.''
