The game began with Cardinal Stritch's, Liz Neitzel, swishing a three-pointer to put the Wolves on the scoreboard first. The Trojans answered back quickly, and by the third minute, Trojan Melanie Duplessis made both of her free throws, which put the score tied at 9-9. Lavina Price scored a jumper for Trinity, moving them to the lead, 11-9. However, for the next three minutes, the Wolves would hold the Trojans to 11 points while they increased their lead by 10 points, making the score 11-21 with Cardinal Stritch in the lead. For the remainder of the game, the Trojans would not be able to take back the lead. The first half ended with Cardinal Stritch ahead of Trinity International, 47-22.
The heart of the Trojans was very evident as they started the second half in full-court press. The Trojans took the Wolves by surprise in the first few seconds as Reanna Perrera swished a three-pointer eight seconds into the half. Jami Higgs scored another three point shot, followed by Brittany Simon with a jumper. The Trojans were fired up and giving it their all against the Wolves, even though they were down by 19 points, at 32-51. The Trojans forced the Wolves to take a timeout because they were caught off guard by how strong Trinity was playing. Throughout the rest of the game the Trojans gave it their best effort; however, in the end, it would not be enough to make the difference on the scoreboard. The final score was Cardinal Stritch with 81 points and Trinity International with 59 points.
Both teams' scoring percentages were very close. Trinity had a 42.6 field goal game percentage and Cardinal Stritch had a 40.6 field goal game percentage. Similarly, Trinity had an 85.7 free throw game percentage and Cardinal Stritch earned a 90.9 free throw game percentage. The largest difference came in the three-point field goals, with Trinity earning a 50.0 game percentage, while Cardinal Stritch only had a 33.3 game percentage.
Duplessis led the offense for the night with 20 total points, making 2 out of 3 three-pointers. Vivianne Kindt followed with 12 total points and 4 rebounds. Perrera earned 11 total points, 8 total rebounds, and had 3 steals as well. Price took 8 points of the night, with 2 baskets being 3-pointers.
The Trojans' overall record is now 5-19, with their conference record moving to 2-6.
The ladies will play again Thursday night, hosting Ashford University, in a non-conference match at 6:00pm.
