DEERFIELD, IL- The Trinity International University men's basketball team played a spectacular game on their home turf, winning big over Purdue North Central, 75-50. A phenomenal whole team effort by the Trojans resulted in victory.
The Trojans were lead by an always entertaining and high flying Patrick Atkins (JR, Chicago, IL) scoring 19 points, while shooting 8-12 from the field. Ignas Verbus (JR, Vilnius, Lithuania) contributed 14 points and came up big defensively with 5 blocks. Atkins and Verbus both had their moments of fast break dunks that lead to an eruption of applaud by the raving TIU crowd.
Purdue North Central was lead by Ryan Sisson (JR, Grand Rapids, MI) scoring 23 points and going 13-17 from the freethrow line.
As a team the Trojans shot 50.9% from the field and 30.4% from 3-point land, compared to PNC who shot 34.1% from the field and 16.7% behind the 3-point arc. During the first half the score tied two times and the lead changed four times. However, the Trojans would end the first half with a 14 point lead, 34-20.
TIU would not allow PNC to ever get back in the game. The Trojans cruised with a double digit lead for the rest of the contest, despite accumulating a total of 20 peronal fouls. The game would end in Trojans victory with a 25 point lead, 75-50.
The Trojans play again at Meyers Sports Complex Februarty 10th at 7:30 pm against Cardinal Stritch University.
