CALUMET, IN - The Trojans road woes continue during a 88-70 loss to Calumet St. Joseph. After holding a double digit lead in the first half the Trojans were unable to hold on as the Crimson Wave lit up the scoarboard handing TIU its 5th conference loss.
After defeating the Crimson Wave by 20 points at home last time, the Trojans went on the road for a Rematch. The Trojans jumped out to a commanding 11 point lead to start the game and would hold the lead for most of the first half. CCSJ chipped away at the lead as the Trojan offense staffed due to 33% shooting from the field. The Trojans top two scorers were held in check most of the night as Ignas Verbus (Jr, Lithuania) and Patrick Atkins (JR, Chicago IL) were held to 11 and 9 points respectively. With the Trojan lead shrinking away the Crimson finished the half on a back breaking 35-19 run to take a 12 point halftime lead.
The second half began much like the first half ended with the Trojan offense struggling and CCSJ increasing their lead. Although the Trojans leading scorers were all held under their season averages Jordan Kerpan (FR Phoenix, AZ) scored a career high 15 points to help pick up the slack. In the end it wasn't enough as the Trojans would fall 88-70.
The Trojans next take on Cardinal Stritch this Saturday at 7:30 in the Meyer Sports Complex.
