The Trojans widest lead was by 11 points in the ninth minute of the game when Lavina Price scored a jumper, putting the score to 22-11 over the Peregrines. Purdue Calumet was not about to give up, however. They would shorten Trinity's lead over them to a 1-point margin at the 5:28 minute marker. Trinity remained in the lead for all but three minutes of the first half. Time ran out on the clock with Trinity ahead by 4 points, 39-35. The shooting percentages of both teams were roughly the same: Trinity had a 46.2 field goal percentage at half, while Purdue Calumet had a 42.4 percentage. Purdue Calumet had a much more impressive free throw percentage than Trinity did the first half: Trinity made 50.0 percent, while Purdue Calumet made 75.0 percent.
The second half began with a turnover by Purdue Calumet's MeMe Harris, which Trinity's Melanie Duplessis turned into a basket to put Trinity ahead by 6 points at the start of the half, 41-35. Trinity's lead diminished throughout the next two minutes until Peregrine, Sara Keilman, scored a jumper that put Purdue Calumet ahead by one, 43-42. Throughout the remainder of the game, the lead would change 10 times and the score would tie 7 times.
In the final minute of the second half, the game became within a three point margin when Duplessis scored a 3-pointer, pushing Trinity ahead, 69-66. The Peregrines' Keilman scored a jumper with 26 seconds on the clock to make the difference in the game a 1-point margin, 69-68. The Peregrines, Tierra Turner and Harris, would commit two fouls against Trinity in the remaining seconds of the game. Trinity's Reanna Perrera and Duplessis would go to the line making both of their free throws. Trinity won the game 73-68.
Lavina Price was the leading scorer tonight for the Trojans with 21 total points and 4 rebounds. Duplessis followed closely with 20 total points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals. Vivianne Kindt owned 12 points and 7 rebounds, while Perrera was on fire with 8 steals, 10 points, and 13 total rebounds.
The Trojans ended the game with a 39.5 field goal percentage contrasted to Purdue Calumet's 41.5 field goal percentage. Trinity earned a 62.5 free throw percentage for the game, while Purdue Calumet had a 52.2 free throw percentage.
The Trojans will look to continue their two-game win streak on Wednesday, February 3 at the Calumet College of St. Joseph. Tip-off is scheduled to be at 5:30pm.
