PALOS HEIGHTS, IL- The Trinity International University Trojans men's basketball team was defeated on the road by the Trinity Christian College Trolls, 85-98. Despite impressive individual efforts by the Trojans; the trolls were able to squash any hope of a TIU victory.
Ignas Verbas (JR, Lithuania) lead the Trojans scoring an impressive 30 points and grabbing 9 rebounds. Pat Atkins (JR, Chicago, IL) also contributed a healthy 22 points towards the Trojan offensive attack. Even with these great individual contributions on the Trojans behalf, it sill would not be enough to defeat the pesky Trolls.
Trinity Christian College was lead to victory by Will Bruinsma (SR, New Era, MI) scoring 23 points. Following Bruinsma's lead, and making there own triumphant three-some were Josh Flikkema (JR, Delavan, WI) with 21 points, and Bryan Stevens (JR, Sun Valley, CA) scoring 20 points.
The first half of the contest would be lead by both the Trojans and Trolls. The half was tied five times with its final deadlock being at the 5 minute mark, 34-34. At that point the Trolls would go on a 20-9 run ending the half with an 11-point lead, 43-54.
The Trolls would never lose their lead again but the Trojans would creep within 3 points with 9 minutes remaining in the contest, 75-78. At that point the Trolls would go on a 7-0 run and tame the Trojans offensive efforts ultimately leading them to defeat, 85-98.
The Trojans (4-17) look for a win at home against Judson University January 27th, 7:30 pm at the Meyers Sports Complex.
