Hammond, Indiana - Trinity International University women's basketball lost in the final minutes due to a strong finish by the Purdue Peregrines.

Purdue University Calumet used a late surge in the second half to open CCAC play with a 79-73 victory over Trinity International on Wednesday night.

Trailing by seven with just over nine minutes to play in the contest, the Peregrines came to life. Stephaine Beck ignited a crucial run by the Black and Gold over the next seven minutes, knocking down a trifecta off a feed from MeMe Harris. Purdue Calumet outscored the Trojans 23-6 in that span, grabbing its largest lead of the game, 75-65, on Jennifer Britton's free throw at the two-minute mark.

Reanna Perera led the Trojans with 18 points and 8 rebounds. The Trojans also had five players in double figures, while Britteny Simon led the team in steals. Unfortunately, this was not enough to seal the win.

Trinity International was able to cut the lead to four in the closing seconds, but Britton would ice the game with two more free throws to help the Peregrines win their second conference opener.

The Trojans overall record is now 2-11. They will return to the hardwood this Saturday, January 9, at home against Calumet College of St. Joseph.  Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30pm.
