DEERFIELD, IL - Trinity International University is pleased to announce that Kirk Wherritt has been named as Head Football Coach, effective immediately.  Coach Wherritt will seek to revive Trojan football which has not appeared in the NAIA post season since 2004.  He is aided by a strong resume and passion to win.

Coach Wherritt has served as Offensive Coordinator and Head Recruiting Coordinator for the past two seasons at TIU.  He has previously coached at the University of Neveda-Las Vegas and at the University of Utah under then Head Coach, Urban Meyer.

Coach Wherritt earned a Bachelor of Science in Therapeutic Recreation from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2004 and a Master of Education in Sport Education Leadership from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas in 2009.

Wherritt succeeds Michael Gims, who recently resigned his position as head football coach earlier this week.

Says Athletic Director, Dr. William Washington, "I am confident that Coach Wherritt will be able to build the Trojans football program with a strong foundation of spiritual growth, academic excellence, and athletic performance in the coming years."

Please join the Trinity community in praying that God will use this change to strengthen Trinity's football program and positively impact the lives of TIU's student-athletes.
