HUNTINGTON, IN - the Trojans suffered from poor free throw shooting and a 31-20 deficit on the boards falling to William Penn, in the second round of the Huntington Tournament, 94-83.

Game two got off to a great start for the Trojans as a missed Patrick Atkins (JR, Chicago IL) three point attempt was rebounded and thrown our to Ignus Verbas (JR, Vilnius Lithuania) who gave the Trojans a 3-0 lead to start the game.  The two teams went back and forth for the first three minutes of the game with both teams matching each other basket for basket. The Statesmen then went on a run scoring 17 of the next 23 points to take an early 11 point lead with 11:35 left in the First Half.

The Trojans continued to play scrappy and whittled the lead to 4 after two three pointers each from Tyrone Smith (JR, Detroit MI) and Carson Chapman (FR, Yorba Linda, CA) with 5:55 to go in the first half.  After another defensive stop, the Trojans has to ball to cut the lead to a one possession game.  Patrick Lapinski (FR, Annapolis, MD) went to the line to put another dent in the Statesmen lead.  Lapinski hit one of his two free throws cutting the lead to 37-34.  From that point, the Statesmen took control of the game ending the first half on a 19-4 taking a 56-38 lead into halftime.

The Trojans came out and scored the first 5 points after halftime on two Danny Kirst (SR ,Galena, IL) free throws and a Verbus 3 pointer.  The lead stayed between 15-20 points as the teams exchanged baskets until the 10:43 mark in the second half.  At that point Verbus took the game over scoring 6 of his 21 points on the next three possessions.

The Trojans whittled the lead all the way down to 89-81 on a layup from Kirst with 1:40 left in the game.  Then, after a statesman basket put the lead back to 10, Patrick Atkins cut the lead back to 8 with 2 of his game high 24 points.  That would be as close as the Trojans would get as they fell 94-83.

TIU next takes on Chicago State on Wednesday November 18th.
