JOLIET, IL -  Trinity International finished 2-1in the CCAC opening round tournament and in the process collected their 20th win of the season.

The Lady Trojans traveled to the University of St. Francis after finishing in 6th place in the CCAC.  Being grouped into a pool with St. Francis, Cardinal Stritch University, and Illinois Institute of Technology, TIU played a match against each with the winner earning a spot in the CCAC final.

After losing the first set in a heated competition with St Francis , 28-26, the Trojans rallied to take set two, 25-22.  In the third set,  St. Francis' aggressive serving led them to victory, capturing the win 25-16.  The Trojans would not stop fighting, but in the end came up short, losing set four 25-20.  This first and only loss for the Trojans would eventually seal their second place finish and elimination from the CCAC post season play.

The Trojans would enter match #2 against an opponent they had lost to earlier in the season,  But this go around would be different, as Trinity jumped out to a two set to none lead on Illinois Institute of Technology (18-19, 7-3 CCAC).  After losses the next two sets, the Trojans enter the fifth set in a must win situtation to have any chance to advance to the CCAC final match.  Trinity found a way to take care of business beating the Scarlett Hawks 15-11.

Sitting at a 1-1 record on the weekend, with St. Francis at 2-0, the Trojans only hope to advance was to first take out Cardinal Stritch(10-22, 4-6 CCAC).  Earlier in the season, the Wolves came to the campus of TIU and handed the Trojans a 4 set loss.  It was a disappointing defeat that dropped TIU from 4th to 6th place in the CCAC.

The two teams split the first two sets (25-19 CSU and 25-18 TIU).  TIU lost the momentum by lossing set 3, 25-23, but grabbed it right back with a fourth set victory, 25-16.   It came down to the fifth set for the second time on the weekend.  The Trojans would prevail again, winning  the set 15-9 to take the match.

Senior Carly Yattaw led the Trojan offense tallying 20 plus kills in each contest (20, 25 and 27, respectively) while maintaining an impressive .307 attack percentage.  In addition to the 72 kills posted by Yattaw, Junior Cheri Stoddard connected on 71 other assists.  Tayler Arseneau and Kelley Gims both posted great numbers in the attack.  Arseneau added 38 kills on the weekend, while Gims contributed 26.

The Trojans posted a tremendous 21 aces, led by senior Jacqui Thomson who added 9.  But, a relentless defense was the key to Trojan success and Junior Allison Kinsbury and Sophomore Tayler Arseneau combined for 140 of the team's 245 digs on the weeked.

With a 2-1 record, TIU would need a little help from IIT.  With an IIT victory over St. Francis, the Trojans would sneak into a playoff spot for a chance at the final CCAC match.  That helps would not come though, as IIT was swept in 3 sets.

However, with great play over the weekend, the Trojans increased their season win total to 20, a 7 match gain over their total from a year ago.

Trinity (20-17, 5-5 CCAC) will travel to Northwestern College (MN) next weekend to compete in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Mideast Regional.  At stake is an automatic bid to the NCCAA National Championship to be held in Florida.
