CEDAR RAPIDS, IA- The Trinity Men's Basketball team dropped a 91-73 contest against Mount Mercy College on Friday Night, November 7th.

The game was held at the Hennessey Rec Center in Cedar Rapids, IA as a part of the Mount Mercy Classic.

Trinity led 13-10, with 13 minutes to play in the first half, and opened up a 21-12 advantage with just under ten minutes to go. Trinity went on to out shoot Mount Mercy 44% to 34% from the field to secure a 9 point advantage at halftime, 39-30.

Mount Mercy opened up the second half with a 14-2 run to take their first lead since being up 4-2 in the first two minutes of the game. It was a see-saw match through out the first nine minutes of the second half, until Tyrone Smith (Detroit, MI) hit a 3-point basket to put Trinity up 55-54.

One minute later, Keith Kuenstling of Mount Mercy hit a 3-point basket of his own to put Mount Mercy up for good, 57-55. The Trojans were not able to regain momentum, as Mount Mercy pulled away with the 91-73 victory. Mount Mercy finished the 2nd half out shooting the Trojans 58%-31%.

Tyrone Smith led the Trojans with 22 points while hitting 6 of 10 from behind the 3-point line. Ignas Verbus (Vilnius, Lithuania) had a strong showing with 20 points and 8 rebounds, while Patrick Atkins (Chicago, IL) helped the cause by dishing out 6 assists to go along with 10 points and 9 rebounds.

Trinity will take on Iowa Weslyan College at 2:00pm on Saturday to close out their showing at the Mount Mercy Classic.
