The Trojans offense came out strong on their first drive of the half. Daniel Beals (FR, Chicago IL) used his arm and his legs on the opening possession to move his team down the field. On 3rd and 8 Beals found Dave Hardt (SR, Des Plains IL) for 19 yards and a first down. Then on 3rd and 7 on the same drive Beals scrambled 10 yards to the Malone 36 for another first down. The offense would falter from there and would be forced to punt the ball away. Pinning Malone back on their own 10 yard line.
The Trojans defense then took the field looking to get the ball back to the offense in great field position. On the 5th play of the drive Nick Prodanic (FR, Chicago IL) hammered the Malone running back forcing a fumble that was recovered by Jawon Spivery (FR, Chicago IL) putting the Trojan Offense in great field position swinging momentum back in favor of TIU.The Offense took the field but started moving backwards. After a block in the back and a one yard loss the Trojans faced 3rd and 17 from the Malone 33. Beals, once again used his feet to buy some time and found a wide open Kyle Mowen (FR, Omond Beach FL) for a 33 yard touchdown. The celebration quickly ended as Josiah Schillinger's (FR, Middletown OH) kick was blocked leaving the Trojans with a 7-6 deficit.
As the Defense came back out onto the field the energy and excitement was high. Malone picked up a first down on a 19 yard pass play but after a Dwayne Williams (FR, Chicago IL) sack pushed Malone back the Pioneers were forced to punt.Pinned back on their 8 yard line the Offense once again took the field. Penalties and miscues pushed the Trojans back to the 2 yard line where the Trojans would be forced to bring on Schillinger for his second punt of the game. Schillinger kicked one of his best punts of the year as the punt traveled 46 yards and the coverage team tackled the returner for a 3 yard loss.
The Malone offense then went to work on the ground. After picking up a first down the Trojan Defense looked to stand tall on 3rd and 8 but a 19 yard throw picked up the first down. Two plays later the Pioneers were in the end zone again. The rest of the first half would be owned by the Pioneers. The Trojan offense picked up just two more first downs on their next three possessions and Malone added two more touchdowns passes of 94 and 2 yards. At the half the Trojans trailed 27-6.
The opening of the second half saw more of the same from the Offense. The first possession was another three and out as the Trojans run game faltered. On 4th and 7 Schillinger was forced to come out for another punt.Malone would march the ball downfield 49 yards in 5 plays to put the icing on the cake. The drive was capped with a 11 yard run.
From that point on the offense moved the ball mostly on the ground as Beals, Zach Cunningham (FR, Chicago IL) and Clifton Johnson (FR, Chicago IL) all had big runs. However, the offense would falter in the redzone. The defense would give up two more touchdowns before the day was over as they began to tire late in the 3rd quarter and into the fourth.
The highlight of the second half came in the fourth quarter as Beals showed off his wheels on a 90 yard touchdown run the Trojans longest of the season. In the end, Beals 114 yards rushing was not enough as Malone prevailed 48-12.The Trojans finish up their season on Saturday November 7th @ 1:00PM in Leslie Frazier Field
