DEERFIELD, IL - Trinity International University announces the addition of two additional varsity sports for the 2010-2011 academic year in cross country, with teams for both men and women.

With these new teams, the university will sponsor a total of twelve varsity sports, which provide more than 250 students an opportunity for intercollegiate competition in: football, soccer, basketball, and baseball, golf and cross country for men; and volleyball, soccer, basketball, and softball, golf and cross country for women.

Dr. William Washington, senior vice president of student affairs and athletic director, notes, "Cross country is a sport that is strong throughout our conference and our region. We see its addition as strengthening our presence in the college sports landscape and giving more student-athletes an opportunity to compete under the colors of TIU."

Recruiting for head coaches of the new teams is currently underway, with the intention of filling the positions in the very near future. "The head coach will have nearly nine months to recruit before the inaugural season in 2010-11," added Washington. While schedules have not yet been assembled, regional opponents will likely include such familiar opponents as Olivet Nazarene, Judson, and St. Xavier.

The mission of Trojan Athletics is to glorify God through Jesus Christ by pursuing wholehearted excellence academically, athletically, relationally and spiritually through intercollegiate athletics.
