DEERFIELD, IL - Lady Trojans advance over Illinois Institute of Technology, 2-0 on a 71 degree, October day on the campus of Trinity International University.
The Lady Trojans came out with spirit and hustle. The first 10 minutes of the half was similar to a kickball match. They quickly learned that they had better opportunities when they possessed and kept the ball on the ground. TIU had 5 shots in the 1st half while IIT had 0.
Both teams entered halftime scoreless.
Coach Gilliam encouraged the girls to test the keeper and take more shots while in the 18 yard box. Junior Nikki Sigurdson did just that. Off a pass from Michelle Renaud to Diana Anderson, Nikki drilled the shot just above IIT's goalkeeper.
Fifteen minutes later senior captain, Karen Ibata, connected off a corner kick from Jenny Schonewill. Ibata took the ball out of the air at the 6 yard line and power thighed the ball into the back of the net.
Coach Gilliam is proud of the Lady Trojans. "It was a solid win today. A team win. Everyone contributed," he said.
The Lady Trojans advanced with a 2-0 victory. They are currently at 500 with a record of 7-7-1. They will face the St. Xavier Cougars on Saturday, October 24 at 12 noon at Schartner Field on Senior Day.
