DEERFIELD, IL - SENIOR DAY. Last week's success feels fades as the men suffered a 6-3 loss against Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT).
Tim Oswald and Nate Wandel are the two Trojan Senior Men. They were
honored at halftime and presented a Bible and encouraging word from
head coach, Patrick Gilliam.
The Trojan Men had a great week against Holy Cross and St. Francis last
week. Coming off a strong win, they had hoped to continue the on-field
success. However, IIT's intensity, communication and attacking
presence was too much to bare.
IIT's, Liam Barrett, began the scoring in the 29th minute when he
slotted a ball through the legs of freshman goalie, Collin Cone. TIU
answered back ive minutes later when Petro Giannokoupolis scored off a
pass from freshman, Micah Price. Petro continued to be a difference
maker when he drew and scored a penalty kick at 20:15. However, IIT
did not go away. Center midfielder, Luke Blakely, flicked on a ball to
the feet of Liam Barret who went on to score his second goal of the
game with 3:37 left in the first half.
Both teams entered halftime tied at 2-2.
The Scarlet Hawks turned on all offensive cylinders early in the 2nd
half. Barrett continued to cause damage for the Trojans when he put
away two more goals in the first 5 minutes of the half. Jake
Carmichael added to the wreckage when he put away a ball served from
Aaron McEneff. IIT led 5-2. The Trojan men stopped the bleeding for a
little while when the Giannokoupois twins found each other with 28
minutes left in the game when they connected on a corner kick. Liam
Barrett continued to hurt the Trojan t defense when he put away his 5th
goal of the game with 21:36 left to go in the match.
The Scarlet Hawks advanced with a victory of 6-3 over the Trojan Men.
The men are now 2-6 in the CCAC conference and 2-14 overall. They will
resume play against Calumet (IN) on Wednesday, October 28.
