DEERFIELD - The Trojan offense dominated the University of St. Francis' defense with a 6-1 victory.
The rain had let up just in time as the Trojans came out looking for a second victory at Shartner Field. Although it is Fall Break for the rest of TIU's student body, the Trojan Men have turned on all cylinders on the soccer field.
The Trojans started the scoring fest 10 minutes into the game when defender, Brad Earnest, flighted a free kick into the 18-yard box which Vasily Giannakopoulos went on to head into the back of the net. USF answered back 13 minutes later when Luis Escorza served a ball down the left flank to the feet of forward Victor Trujillo who went on to slot the ball past TIU's, Collin Cone. However, less than two minutes later TIU added another to the scoreboard when Evan Paur slotted a ball through the Saint's defense to Petro Giannakopoulos who put the ball away into the far side of the net.
The Trojans entered halftime with a 2-1 lead. They began the 2nd half with high morale and a lot of confidence.
Junior captain, Casey Thompson, assisted Andrew Nyberg in the 32nd minute of the game. USF tried to battle back and became overly aggressive drawing two yellow cards for their team. The Trojan offense was too much to stop as the men went onto score 3 more goals by Petro Giannakopoulos, Casey Thompson, and Josh Leandro ending the game with a 6-1 win.
The Trojans are now 2-5 in the CCAC conference and 2-13 overall. They will resume play at Shartner Field next week against Illinois Institute of Technology on Tuesday, October 20.
