Samantha VanDenack achieved her first career hat trick.
DEERFIELD, IL - Lady Trojans of TIU took it to the Saints of Holy Cross in a CCAC match up and secured a 9-0 victory.
The Lady Trojans haven't scored more than one goal in a single match since August. Tuesday, October 13 ended that series. Sophomore Samantha VanDenack has continued to set the bar high for the Trojan squad. She led the scoring off a cross from outside midfielder, Michelle Renaud. Both Renaud and VanDenack had hat tricks (3 goals).
Junior, Nikki Sigurdson, finished the half with a beautiful shot off a pass from sophomore, Diana Anderson, with just 1.6 seconds left in the half.
The Trojans entered halftime with a 3-0 lead.
They were encouraged to continue having fun and be more urgent with the ball. They heeded their coaches words and created several more scoring opportunities. Junior defender, Sarah Figard got into the attack and served a beautiful ball which freshman, Becky Sevela, headed into the back of the net. Sophomore, Diana Anderson, took on three Saint defenders and slotted the ball past their goalie.
With the victory, TIU raises their record to 5-7-1 on the season, 3-2 in CCAC play. They will resume play at home on Saturday, October 17 against St. Francis University.
