Olivet Nazarene University is ranked number one in the CCAC Conference. The Trojans, however, were not intimidated by the Tiger's ranking. They came out ready to fight. The first game did not play out as they would have hoped. But the ladies came back in games two and three to pull out the win in both games over the Tigers. There were many rallies that kept the teams close in score. In the fifth and final game, the score went point by point as both teams gave it their all. In the end, however, the ladies were unable to conquer the Tigers. The final scores were (9-25, 25-22, 25-22, 13-25, 8-15).
Despite the loss, the Trojans played extremely well in this match, rising to fill a level of their potential that has not been seen in many games prior. The heart and passion on the court was greatly evident, especially as the Trojans threw a curve ball that the Tigers were not expecting when the Trojans were such tough competition. With the Tigers current record, they have been used to trampling the teams that come to play them; however, to their surprise the Trojans did not go down without a strong fight.
Carly Yattaw led the attack in kills with fifteen, while Kelly Gims followed with a close ten kills. Yattaw also earned a .229 attack percentage. Tayler Arseneau also had nine kills. Cherri Stoddard assisted the offense with 42 set assists.
Anchoring the defense was Chelsie Shields with three blocks and Gims with two. Arseneau led in digs with 23. Defensively the team played very cohesively.
The Trojan's overall record is 11-13, while their conference record is now 1-3. They will play next in a tri-match at home this Friday against Bethel University and Robert Morris College. Match times at set for play at 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM, with Robert Morris playing Bethel at 6 PM.
