The ladies began the tournament with an overall record of 10-9. As they would play four matches this weekend, they hoped to better their record.
The Trojans took on Evangel University (Springfield, MO) in the second match on Friday. The Crusaders entered the tournament with a record of 16-3. The Trojans started off strong and worked together as a cohesive unit throughout the match. Winning the first game, the ladies were pumped to take down the Crusaders. However, even though they played well, they were unable to overcome Evangel. The Trojans lost this match (25-23, 23-25, 20-25, 23-25). Again, Arseneau and Yattaw led in kills with 13 and 18, respectively. Yattaw also led again in the attack percentage with .300.
Saturday began with the Trojans playing the Ravens of Benedictine College (Atchison, KS). The Ravens entered the tournament boasting a strong record of 14-4, placing them fourth in their conference. The Trojans were not as focused in their speed of play in this match, causing them to lose (17-25, 24-26, 14-25). Defensively the team had a total of eight team blocks, while Brynne Eaton and Katie Wilson led with 2 and 3 blocks, respectively. On the attack, Yattaw and Arseneau both had 11 kills, while Chelsie Shields had 5.
In the final game of the tournament, the Lady Trojans were determined to give the Lady Lions of Lindenwood University (St. Charles, MO) a run for their money. The Lions entered the tournament holding an overall record of 15-6, which put them first in their conference and twentieth in the nation. But this did not deter the spirit of the Trojans. Right from the start of game one, the Trojans answered back to the Lions and kept the score close. Yattaw led the offense in kills with 10, while Shields followed with 6 kills and had a .385 hitting percentage. Unfortunately, the Trojans were unable to clinch the win in this match (19-25, 21-25, 21-25).
The tournament dropped the volleyball team's overall record to 11-12. The ladies will play again at Olivet Nazarene University on Tuesday, October 6th at 7:00pm.
