As the focus of homecoming turned towards the football team, the Trojans lined up hoping to notch their first win of the season. However, after the dust settled the Trojans gave it all the could but the home fans came away disappointed with a 23-14 loss.
Trinity came out of the locker room and got the homecoming crowd on their feet with their new pre game tradition, The Haka. The Trojan Offense got the ball first and started off with a 14 yard pass from Daniel Beals to Eddie Pascual. That was all the offense they could muster on the first drive and were forced to punt. After a bad snap Trinity's punt was blocked by Alber Williams and returned 51 yards for a touchdown. On the ensuing drive the Trojans went three and out and the punt team came to the field once again. This time the punt got off with no problem but the Trojans were flagged with a 15 yard catch interference penalty giving Waldorf the ball on the 50 yard line. 7 plays later Jeff Buron gave Waldorf a 14-0 1rst quarter lead on a 3 yard run.
The Trojans came out in the second quarter and cut the lead in half. Daniel Beals found Nigel Pinson for a 37 yard touchdown strike to make the score 14-7. Waldorf answered right back with a Erik Henderson 63 yard touchdown run but the Trojan Field Goal Block team responded by blocking their 5th kick of the season. But Waldorf increased their lead to 20-7. As the first half came to a close Beals tried to force a pass to Kyle Mowen during their two minute drill that was picked off by Alex Grunhovd. 5 plays later the Trojans deficit was increased to 23-7.
The second half opened with a much stronger defensive effort for the Trojans. After two Waldorf punts Daniel Beals found Nigel Pinson again for a 28 yard gain to kick start a 9 play 68 yard druve capped off with a Cifton Johnson 3 yard touchdown catch from Daniel Beals. After the extra point the score increased to 23-14. After another three and out by the Trojan Defense momentum was on the Trojans side. After an 11 play 69 yard drive the Trojans were faced with a 4th and Goal from the 4 yard line. Coach Gims elected to take the points as he sent the Trojan Field Goal team onto the field. As the Trojans tried to cut the lead to 6 points, Waldorf had other plans as Darre Stephens got a hand on the ball and the Trojan came away with nothing. At this point you could feel the air get sucked right out of the stadium. The Trojan offense failed in two more drives to move the ball. Finally time ran out on the Trojans as come back bid fell short as Waldorf came away with a 23-14 victory.
Cole Bamberger finished the game with 127 yards rushing his first 100 yard performance of the season. Daniel Beals connected on two touchdown passes on the day his first two touchdown passes of his college career.
The Trojans next play on September 26 in Oskaloosa IA as they take on William Penn University at 6:00PM
