Sep 6 - In a two day schedule that showed some solid play, TIU dropped two games to Biola and Soka in Los Angeles.
Trinity opened play against Biola University in La Mirada, CA. Biola entered the game with a 2-0 record, not having surrendered a goal on the young season. TIU's last game against Biola came with a 2-1 overtime loss in 2007.
This year's edition started strong for the Eagles as Zach Bautista quickly scored in the 8th minute heading a shot in after a Shalom Baku assist. Bautista again beat TIU keeper Karl Lindbald (Fr., Cottage Grove, MN) in the 20th minute, finishing a Jake Ravenscraft pass from 10 yards out.
Three minutes prior to the half, Marco Ruvalcaba broke free with the ball on the outside and hit the left inside of the net to extend the Eagle lead to 3-0.
TIU managed just one shot on goal in the half coming from middle fielder Evan Paur (So., Orange County, CA) in the 56th minute. Lindbald totaled 2 saves.
The Trojans defense started the 2nd half strong, shutting down the Biola attack, that is until the 79th minute when Derek Friehe broke through to net a goal from inside the box. Ruvalcaba was credited with the assist. Derek's brother Philip Friehe finished off the Eagle scoring in the final two minutes with a goal off a Joshua-Paul Robles assist.
Trinity managed just one additional shot on goal, footed by defender Vasily Giannakopoulos (So., Wilmot, WI). Lindbald added 3 additional saves.
On Saturday, TIU traveled Aliso Viejo, CA to take on Soka University. The men forced a 1-1 at the end of regulation play but would surrender an overtime Soku goal to drop the contest 2-1.
The Trojans will be back in action on Friday, September 11 as they travel to Morningside College. The men are 0-5 on the season.
