Aug 29 - The Trojan football team dropped the season opener to the Tigers of Iowa Wesleyan 29-7 in Mount Pleasant, IA tonight.
The Trojans traveled to Mount Pleasant Iowa to take on a familiar opponent, the Iowa Wesleyan Tigers. The Tigers took control of the game early by scoring on their first possession. They kept the drive alive by converting on a fourth and 8 on the 48 yard line with a fake punt. A few plays later Jaren Maybin punched in a one yard touchdown run. The Tigers added a field goal and a safety before half time making the score 19-0.
The second half was more of the same for the Trojans as they continued to struggle moving the football. Cole Bamburger ran the ball 8 times for 23 yards while Kendrick Dent was 5 of 18 for only 22 yards. The Tigers added a Field Goal in the third quarter along with another touchdown in the fourth while the trojan offense never put anything together until the last drive of the fourth quarter when Daniel Beals and Clif Johnson led the Trojans on a 8 play 85 yard touchdown drive.
All in all it was a tough day for the young Trojans. Clif Johnson led the Trojans with 6 carries for 75 yards and a touchdown. Pete Miller was a bright spot on the defense finishing the day with 11 tackles and 2 Interceptions. The final score was, Trojans 7, Tiger 29.
