Apr 22 - Trinity International pounded out five homeruns, three by Phil Sims (Waukegan, IL), leading to a doubleheader sweep of CCAC foe, Cardinal Stritch, 17-0 and 8-6.

GAME 1

The Trojans opened game one in strong fashion.  Kyle Keller (Baton Rouge, LA) worked a count to 3-2 before depositing the next pitch over the left centerfield fence for a lead off homerun.  After loading the bases with the next three batters, Pete Miller (Chicago, IL) and TJ Kaiser (St. Charles, IL) followed with RBI singles to give TIU a 3-0 lead.

But the Trojans offense was not done there.  With one out and the bases loaded again, Cardinal Stritch went to the bullpen.  Wolves pitcher, Tony Engibous, was greeted with a 2 run double off the bat of Ian Anderson (Urbandale, IA).  With two walks, a sac fly, and a single later, the Trojans lead 9-0 with two outs.  Miller then launched an 0-1 pitch over the fence for 3 more and the route was on.

TIU added one in the 2nd inning on an RBI sac fly by Keller, one more in the 3rd on a lead off homerun by Sims, and 3 more in the 4th on Sims' second homer of the game, this time a 3 run shot.

Junior Owen Leflar (Edmonton AB, Canada) pitched four scoreless innings, giving up two hits and walking one to improve to 2-4 on the season.  Kyle Lewis (Elmhurst, IL) pitched a scoreless 5th for the run-ruled 5 inning game.

Stephen Bradner (New City, AZ) went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI.

GAME 2

TIU got the scoring starting the top of the first as Keller was hit by a pitch and stole second and third.  Scott Lawson (Campaign, IL) singled him home for a 1-0 lead.

Cardinal Stritch answered right back on a two out homerun by Jacob Lark off TIU starter David Bauguss (Phoenix, AZ).   The Wolves would add two more in the 3rd as Austin Sarauer lead off with a double and Phil Cook was hit by a pitch.  After a bobbled ball at secondbase and a fielders choice, Nicolas Moraza singled in two runs to give the Wolves a 3-1 lead.

It would stay that way until the 5th when the Trojan bats came back to life.  Anderson  and Keller lead off with walks.  After a Dave Hardt (Des Plaines, IL) pop up and a Lawson fielders choice, Sims was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  Miller came up and looked at a wild pitch that plated one run making the Wolves lead slim at 3-2.  Miller then hit the next pitch up the middle for a two run single, giving the Trojans control.  After a Kaiser single to put runners on first and second, Myles Koebel (Surrey BC, Canada) rolled a ball under the glove of the shortstop scoring Miller.  Bradner  immediately followed with a RBI single and the lead stood at 6-3.

TIU added to the lead in the 6th, with the third homerun of the day by Sims, this time a two run shot to straight way centerfield.

Things would get a little scary for the Trojans in the bottom of the 7th.  Aftre two singles and walk to start the inning, and load the bases, Nate Alvarado (Kaneohe, HI) relieved Bauguss, only to be greeted with two blop hits and a walk of his own making the score 8-6.  Caleb Johnson (Elk Grove, IL) came in to strikeout Sarauer and get Cook to ground into a game ending double play.

Bauguss pitched 6 innings for the win, giving up 6 runs, 5 earned.  Johnson earned his first save of the year throwing just 8 pitches.

The Trojans will return to action on Friday, April 24 for a home game against Calumet College of St. Joseph's.  Gametime is 3:30.
