Mar 20 - Trinity International bunched together 7 runs in the middle innings of a 9 inning game to down the Eagles of Robert Morris 7-2 in their CCAC opener.Robert Morris starting pitcher Chris Murchek threw a strong three innings to open the game, setting down the first ten Trojans in a row. After the Eagles took the lead 1-0 in the 2nd, Dave Hardt came through with TIU's first hit in the top of the 4th inning. Scott Lawson continued the trend with a single up the middle followed by a Phil Sims walk. With one out, Pete Miller was hit by a pitch to force in Hardt and tie the game at 1-1. TJ Kaiser's sacrifice fly to center would give the Trojans the lead. They would tack on one more to end the half inning up 3-1.
An inning later the bats of TIU again made some noise though they would wait until two outs and the bases empty. Wilson singled up the middle. Hardt reached first on an error by the secondbaseman. Lawson followed with a double to score Wilson and place two runners in scoring position. Sims then stepped to the plate and three pitches into the at-bat drove a fastball over the leftcenterfield fence for a three run homer.
Caleb Johnson threw 8 strong innings for the Trojans striking out 10 and walking one. He improves to 1-2 on the season. "Caleb was able to command the fastball on the outside corner of the plate, which set up everything else he wanted to throw. A solid outing.," said head coach Tom Raven.
With the win, the Trojans' record moves to 2-6, 1-0 in the CCAC. They will be back in action on Saturday, March 21 at 1:00 as they host games 2 and 3 of the three game set with Robert Morris.
