Mar 9 - Trinity International (1-2) exploded for 27 hits, including 4 homeruns, in a 24-6 blowout of La Sierra University on Monday for their first win of the 2009 season.

Pete Miller's sac fly in the first inning got the scoring started as Paul Wilson plated from third.  The Trojans tacked one more on in the top of the second on a leadoff double by David Bauguss and a single up the middle by Wilson.

La Sierra (1-12) plated their first run in the bottom of the third to make the score a close 2-1 game through 3 innings.  But in the fourth, the TIU bats would come to life, pounding LSU starter Art Rahe for 9 runs, 8 earned.  After Cameron Nicewander reached on an error, Marty Gage doubled Nicewander and himself into scoring position.  Wilson walked, giving Dave Hardt the opportunity to clear the bases with a double into the rightcenter gap.  Four batters, and three more TIU hits late, Bauguss unloaded on a 1-1 fastball over the leftcenter fence to make the score 11-1.

TIU starter Owen Leflar went 5 innings giving up 2 runs, both earned, to gain his first victory of the season (1-0).  Nathan Beckman pitched the 6th and 7th, Bauguss the 8th, and RJ Hallebach the 9th.  The combined staff gave up four earned runs on the day.

Offensive highlights came in the top of the 5th.  Scott Lawson lead off the inning with a homerun to leftcenter.  After a Phil Sims walk, one of 4 on the day, Miller laced an 0-1 fastball over the leftcenter fence.  One batter later, TJ Kaiser added into the fun, as he sent one deep over the rightfield fence.  The Trojans added 5 more runs on the game to end at a score of 24-6.

TIU will return to action Tuesday, March 10 at 5 PM CST as they take on Coach Tom Raven's alma mater and NAIA #8 ranked, Azusa Pacific University.
