March 7 - The Lady Trojans came away with a 59-53 victory this afternoon over Northwestern College (MN) and in doing so secured an automatic bid to the NCCAA National Tournament.Trinity jumped out to a quick lead and although Northwestern fought hard the Lady Trojans never saw their lead disappear. TIU led the Eagles 28-23 at the break behind 13 points from Reanna Perera. Trinity opened the second frame with another burst but found themselves in foul trouble midway through the half. In doing so they allowed the Eagles to sneak back to within striking distance but came up with several strong defensive sequences to secure the victory.
Reanna Perera led the Lady Trojans with 22 points and 12 rebounds while Melanie Duplessis added 19 points. Leading the way for the Eagles was Katie DeWitt with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Anna Weddig finished the game with 12 points with all of them coming in the second half.
With the victory Trinity boosts their record to 20-12 on the season. They will also receive an automatic bid to the NCCAA National Tournament held in Winona Lake, IN on March 12-14.
