Senior night is always an emotional time during the course of a season, this night was no exception. With former Coach Marc Davidson in the building, who coached or recruited every senior, the Trojans 4 seniors, Jason Kofroth, Kyle Nicholson, Damien Cole, and Andrius Zukauskas were honored in front of a packed house Saturday afternoon. As the festivities ended the Trojans knew they had a big task at hand as they took on the top seeded Trolls from Trinity Christian.
Although it was senior night, a sophomore dominated the first half, as Patrick Atkins filled up the stat sheet once again. However, he found himself in a duel with potential conference player of the year, Kurt Gruppen. The two went back and forth taking turns trading baskets as Atkins finished with 19 and Gruppen finished with 22 in the first half alone. The Trojans were out-rebounded by 6 and turned the ball over twice as much as the Trolls. All of this lead to a 51-34 deficit for the TIU.
The second half Ignas Verbus and Patrick Atkins cut the lead to 58-48 with 13 minutes to go by going on a 7-0 run. On back to back possessions the Trojans tried to cut the lead to single digits but both times they came up empty. From the point on Trinity Christian took control of the game going on a 14-4 run to increase the lead back to 20. The Trojans gave a valiant effort but came up short falling to the rival Trolls 97-67.
Patrick Atkins finished the day with 29 points 4 rebounds 3 assists and 4 steals. Ignus Verbus was the only other Trojan in double digits finishing with 13 points.
